Solar MIG Welders - A New Option Of Welding

A welder is equipment that joins to metals at the desired point by an application of heat. The traditional welders have used electricity and fuel. Both have had their own share of problems. While electric welders have faced the problem of equipments failing to change constantly with the alternating AC and DC current, the fuel engines have not been cost effective with the fuel prices soaring sky high.

A lot of inventions have occurred in this field.  Since change is the only constant now science has gone a step further and introduced Solar MIG welders. And what better source of heat than the sun. The sun emits huge amount of energy everyday, which goes unharnessed. The welding industry took note of this fact and has adapted its equipment to use the sun’s heat, trap it in their solar panels.  These Solar MIG welders store the solar energy from the heat radiated by the sun and later use it for the purpose of welding. The solar panels used are specially designed for use in solar welders and even though it has to be said that they are not very efficient in trapping the maximum amount of solar energy, they still manage to capture sufficient amount of energy.

The major problem with Solar MIG welders is that sufficient amount of work hasn’t been done in the solar energy field. So these Solar MIG welders have a very low energy retaining capacity and have to be rest from time to time. The other problems that occur are that the wire gets very hot while the welder will appear to be working fine. Sometimes the heat range cycle only appears to work .The reason for these two problems could be the power being channeled in one particular direction instead of being distributed equally in the multidirectional pattern which is required. Also the duty cycle in these Solar MIG welders is very low and hence these welders are not yet popular in the commercial market.

Although this seems a very possible alternative to the costly electric or fuel based welders, the practical aspect is missing in these Solar MIG welders . This aspect has to be incorporated to make this category of welders more practical to use.
